How can I help my children prepare for the Common Core?

Here are some great ways to help accelerate your children's learning:

• Read aloud to them every day. If possible, choose a group of books on the same subject that interest them so that they can build their knowledge and vocabulary. Unless they love reading and learning, meeting the demands of the Common Core will be drudgery.

* Ask your children about what they see in the outside world, what they are reading about in school and watching on television. Ask them to explain their ideas so that they can cultivate good speaking skills.

• Check out the article we just posted under "Free Resources"  about building a Math library at home. This is a great way to encourage your children's problem-solving skills.
